Volunteer

Want to attend the Symposium for free? Sign up to be a Day-Of Volunteer and help the event run smoothly.

We will email you to let you know that your application has been received and with further details going forward. Volunteers will be held to the same code of conduct as regular Attendees. Questions about this role can be directed to leftcoastsherlockian+vol@gmail.com.

Please read the below volunteer contract fully before submitting an application. Applications are processed on a first come first served basis, so the sooner you apply the better. Volunteers working 8 hours or more over the course of the weekend who complete an application at least 2 weeks before the symposium will be allowed to attend the symposium for free and not be responsible for purchasing a ticket. If you have already purchased a ticket feel free to volunteer anyway, we will refund your registration fee after the symposium. LCSS Volunteer Contract

Any person 18 years of age or older by 10/01/2020 can apply to be a volunteer at the Left Coast Sherlockian Symposium. 

To sign up you must fill out the volunteer application on this website. We will let you know if your application has been approved and where and when we will need you. Please let us know what your anticipated arrival/departure time will be, so that we can make plans for using your assistance.

We will provide any training or instruction necessary for what you need to do, but if you have any specific talents, please let us know.

You will be responsible for checking in with the volunteer coordinator (TBD) upon your arrival at the convention. We will give you more information on this as the event approaches.

Possible volunteer duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Registration table assistance: This includes helping check in attendees and pass out badges.

  • Line and crowd control: This includes monitoring lines and helping with crowd control, during the daytime, at lunch, and/or at the evening event.

  • Friday setup: This includes helping to setup the Symposium at the hotel.

  • Saturday switchover: This includes changing over the room from the daytime set-up for the evening ball/dinner party.

  • Sunday setup: This includes helping to reset the room for the daytime speaking schedule.

  • Sunday break down: This includes moving/carrying things and generally helping break down the Symposium at the hotel.

  • Room entry monitoring: This includes badge checking to ensure only registered attendees are in the Symposium space.

As a volunteer, you must agree to the following:

  1. I promise to show up on time for my designated volunteer hours.

  2. I promise to sign in and out with the appropriate coordinator.

  3. I understand that if I do not fulfill the volunteer hours I agree to I will not be allowed to volunteer at future cons.

  4. I understand that while I may wear a costume during my volunteer hours that it cannot unreasonably restrict my movement or otherwise prevent me from doing my work.

  5. I understand that all regular con rules and regulations apply to volunteers.

 

Please keep in mind that the Left Coast Sherlockian Symposium reserves the right to modify these rules and regulations at any time without prior notice and may deny any individual a volunteer assignment for any reason. Submitting a volunteer registration form does not guarantee a volunteer assignment.
